Braveheart. This movie wants to tell you something. It wants to tell you that the best thing in life is killing people while screaming "FREEDOM" at the top of your voice. And it's oh so glorious to die and kill for this "freedom.
This movie is very one sided. All the English are evil, and they all die in very inventive ways, making the audience go: ohh! ouch! did you see that? Imagine a movie like braveheart being made about a similar conflict in the modern world of today. It would be accused of glorifying war and being totally unrealistic. But put some swords in, and suddenly the movie is an "epic"
I dont hate this movie. Some scenes are pretty entertaining. If you dont take it seriously, you can even laugh at it. But its not a good movie. I found it hard to identify with William Wallace, and I didnt feel sorry when he finally died.

Great scene. Braveheart is a faithful re-creation of the 1995 movie starring Mel Gibson. In Braveheart, you take control of a Scottish clan of your choice in an attempt to prosper and lead Scotland into a new age. Two types of gameplay, real-time strategy and 3D tactical combat, are featured throughout the game. The real-time strategy is necessary to build up an empire and focuses on trading, diplomacy, resources, and maintaining an army. The 3D combat contains epic battles allowing the choice of controlling a whole army from a distance or each individual soldier in the army in man-to-man combat. Players are placed in complete control of one of several accurate 13th century clans, each with different strengths, weaknesses, and goals. The unique gameplay mix allows the player to focus on what he or she does best, either battles or strategy. Take a game that involves in-depth, turn-based strategic city management and a 3D tactical combat system. Now make it totally open-ended so that a player can focus on playing it in whatever style they want. Want to use political subterfuge? You got it. How about strong-arming the opposition? Yep, you can do that too. So can your enemies--and believe me, they will. Base the game on Mel Gibson's Braveheart and give the players the option to kick some serious English tail. Sound like a winner? It sure there's a catch. Throw in a host of unimplemented features that are, for some reason, documented in the manual. Add several bugs and you've got a recipe for frustration. More so because the game seems like it ought to be so good. Braveheart challenges the player to unite the clans of Scotland and carry the war home to the English. You must master tribal politics and clan warfare. But before you can even begin to get familiar with the intricacies of 13th century kingdom management, you'll have to battle your way through an unreliable interface that seems like it should work but just doesn't. There's no doubt that the flavor of the game is perfect. The developers, Red Lemon, are from Scotland and the game is "officially" sanctioned by the Clan Association of Scotland. You can run into Wallace, Bruce, King Edward and other characters from the story. The realism is there, but the gameplay isn't. The sixteen clans in the game are each unique and modeled with an eye to historical accuracy. Over time, you'll begin to know the weakness and strengths of each of your opponents and allies. Clan Cameron for instance is great on the battlefield but are totally inefficient in times of peace. Campbell, on the other hand, prefers to rely on intrigue and their close ties with the English to rise to power. The clan you pick makes a huge difference in terms of starting location too. Once you've made your decision, you're dropped into a tiny Scottish settlement circa 1296. For those of you who prefer to get things moving a little quicker, there are a few accelerated start options to help you get the jump on the competition. The 3D tactical portion of the game is a whole lot more fun than the strategic town management portion. And the best part of the combat side of the game is the variety of camera angles. Although they're a little limiting at first, once you get to know how to use them, you'll be able to zip around the battle with relative ease. There's a soldier's view cam that allows you to look through the eyes of any of your troops. This is great for increasing involvement in the game but does very little to help you tactically. Worst of all, you can't actually take control of the soldier directly. In all the pre-release info of the game I kept thinking how cool it would be to actually be one of those soldiers and start busting heads personally. The other camera views are chase type modes that put you directly behind the soldier selected. Last of all is a free floating camera. Sadly, it's tied to the elevation of the last soldier camera and there are no separate controls for height. Otherwise camera control is pretty straightforward and surprisingly versatile. In terms of appearance, the graphics are pretty good. That is, if you play the game only a few times. I can accept that all the soldiers in an individual unit look the same. It helps to differentiate them from other units. But none of the cool armors that you spent all that time building and distributing are even apparent on the battlefield. That's less important for your own troops but it really matters whether the enemy cavalry are dressed in padded tunics or chainmail. And there's no way to tell. There's also an upper limit of 150 soldiers on the battlefield at once, so one soldier in the 3D display may represent 3 or 4 actual soldiers. I really wanted to see those big battles, but the game even jerks a little in the mid-sized battles. Things aren't much better when it comes to terrain. The pre-release hype mentioned that every mile of Scotland and northern England had been accurately mapped out when in fact, it's very hard to tell one clan territory from another from the 3D view. As a result, there are very few chances to use terrain to your advantage. Most of the fights take place out in a wide-open space--even when you're sacking a town. There are some stunning variations when it comes to weather and time of day. The snow and storm textures in particular are amazing. But the fights themselves are very shallow. Despite the inclusion of controls for formation, most combats degenerate into one massive clump of friendly and enemy units killing each other. There's no finesse here and even if you try some sophisticated maneuvering, the computer player will invariably mush all his troops together and come at you. While this may be historically accurate, it's boring as hell after your first dozen battles. I feel that the combat system has so much potential but it's impossible to actually try anything fancy here. There are so many genuinely impressive options for controlling your army but in the end, formation and tactics are just incidental to the outcome of the fight. Equally bad is the fact that you can't set the opening formation for your troops. The computer just plunks them down in lines. Why the hell are my longspear carriers in the back! What's the point? There are a lot of troops in the game and that's where your decisions really pay off. Knowing which weapons work best against other weapons is the key to winning battles. Keep in mind though that you'll be facing two opponents--Scots and English. Each group has unique weapons. Scots have exclusive use of the claymore, long spear (good against cavalry), broad axes, short bows and clubs. They're not so much about using the cavalry themselves. Most Scottish horses eventually wind up on the dinner table. The English have the big advantage here. They also get great swords, pikes, longbows and crossbows. While there's a lot of variety to the menu, it takes forever for your armorers to "discover" new weapon types. You'll be clubbing it up for a while, my friend. Soldiers aren't the only guys you can move around the map though. Your Leaders are very important. Without a leader, an army can only do three things--move, garrison and guard. To initiate attacks, raids or ambushes you'll need to assign a leader to your forces. As an added bonus, most leaders are real head bashers and can take on their share of enemy forces. Leaders are also responsible for training your troops. Gotta show them villagers how to swing a club, you know. The training of your armies is not handled very well. You recruit green troops from your surplus population. As they practice, they get better. But if you change their weapons or reassign them, they lose all if, and I stress this, you changed their weapons accidentally. Or even worse, you accidentally disband the whole freakin' unit. I was begging for one of those annoying "Are you sure? " prompts. Leaders are also responsible for your diplomatic relations with other clans. You can send leaders on these missions, but they're too entirely too scarce. You're better off sending a Messenger. Messengers don't have access to all the diplomatic functions that leaders do, but they get quite a few more. Messengers can initiate alliances, ask for loans and ransom captured leaders. Why other leaders can't do it, I'll never know. The down side is that your messengers can be killed. So can your leaders now that I think about it, but you can send an army with a leader; you can't with a messenger. Still, it's worth it. The English will slaughter you if you don't form alliances. Problem is, most of the enemy clans are so aggressive that forging a reliable alliance is next to impossible. Scouts and spies are also at your disposal. Scouts map out uncharted territories. Spies infiltrate towns and allow you to enter a 3D rendering of the enemy town. Generally spies are seen as pretty dishonorable folk. Likewise the players who use them. The entire town management interface is great on a level of general concept, but the implementation of these ideas falls short of the initial promise. First off, management is a complicated affair and you feel like the game is fighting you every step of the way. There were several features that I was never able to use. Once I did puzzle out the controls, I often found the results to be disappointing. Part of the problem is that there are so many icons and they're not laid out in the most logical manner. Hardest of the 9 production areas is the town workers screen. There are nine areas in which your workers Four of these areas are based on pulling resources from the surrounding land. Farmers farm, miners mine, quarriers quarry and foresters forest. Wait, that's not right, is it? The other five types of worker take the raw materials produced by the first four and make other commodities. You have builders, bakers, armorers, tailors and jewelers. It's the allocation of workers that caused me the most frustration. First of all, you have an idle workers pool. When you add workers to a project, you'd think that they'd come from this pool. Not from other projects, right? The manual agrees with you. But in the game world things function differently. Workers are pulled from all projects proportionally. This can really cheese you off if you've spent 15 minutes balancing out all your projects. Fortunately you can lock each area so that the number of workers remain constant. A handy auto-management feature is included within the campaign. You can even set individual towns to use their own judgment while you take personal control of the production in the towns that are a little more important. The auto-management interface is a triangle. Each side of the triangle represents one aspect of production--military, trade and people. By dragging a small dot from one area of the triangle to another, you change the priorities of the town. Even on auto-manage, you can make small changes to a town's production. The big limiting factor here is that towns won't help each other in auto-manage mode. If one town is short on grain or meat, nearby towns will let 'em starve. And it's not the smartest program either. In one of my towns, 400 of the 500 workers were placed on idle status for no good reason at all. Since there's no autoroutes for trade caravans, you'd do good to let the AI handle this aspect of town management for you as well. I feel bad after playing this game. I really, really wanted to like it. It has all the elements of a great, life-consuming game. There's the open-ended structure, lots of room for management, lots of room for fighting but ultimately the game just doesn't work right. Eidos has already released a huge patch for the game and I'm still having problems. Forget about the lack of an intuitive, easy to understand interface. The game obviously has some serious technical shortcomings that aren't going to be solved immediately. Better to have held off release until the game had been tested a little more. I might even forgive a premature release if it was Wild Wild West or some other more recent property. At least then you can rationalize it based on cross marketing. But the movie here is 5 years old. Another six months wouldn't make that much of a difference. From the moment it started to the rolling credits, I did not move, I was 100% enthralled with the characters and the relationships they had. I cried many many times throughout, found bits heartbreaking, but still I came away feeling lighter with a warm glow inside.

Al igual que sus dos anteriores discos, fue producido por Chris Thomas y con 4 millones de discos vendidos, no consiguió superar a su predecesor. Tuvo varios hits, como "Suicide Blonde" (que llegó al Top Ten de los Estados Unidos), "Bitter Tears" y "Disappear". A pesar de que las ventas no fueron las esperadas, INXS se embarcó en su gira más extensa y con más éxito, rematando con su Summer XS el 13 de julio de 1991 en un concierto en el emblemático estadio de Wembley en Londres, que sería grabado en directo y que en parte acabaría siendo publicado ese mismo año con el nombre Live Baby Live. There were some very messy circumstances, and I'm not sure this doco provides many insights, aside from suggesting that Hutchence was down because he agonised over the prospect of breaking up Yates and Bob Geldof, and thereby hurting their three daughters, which may have reminded Hutchence of the pain of his own parents' split. In a sense, the veteran indie auteur has been chipping away at the film even longer than that, since the early days of his career, having directed several music videos for INXS – the Australian rock band the renowned singer-songwriter fronted. Lowenstein also helmed the endearingly scuzzy 1986 sharehouse drama Dogs in Space. This bong water-soaked, couch-crashing classic features a rare leading performance from Hutchence himself, with whom the director was friends. Lowenstein has described Mystify as an apology for not being there for the late musician, who took his own life in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997. In this sense, then, its no surprise Lowenstein seems to struggle to determine the best narrative hooks with which to frame Hutchences story: a case, perhaps, of a film-maker being too close to his material. Mystify is a heavyhearted portrait of a highly talented and complex person, who soared to great heights and plummeted to dreadful lows. Frustratingly, Lowenstein doesnt let the musicians talent speak for itself. The film includes snippets of many of his performances, but they are clipped and come and go quickly: a few moments on the stage here and there. I found myself regularly wishing that the director would slow down the pace and let these moments breathe, allowing the audience to savour Hutchences vitalising presence and charisma – and, of course, that bewitching voice. In the early 1990s an incident occurred while bicycling on holiday in Copenhagen with then girlfriend Helena Christensen, where Hutchence gets shoved to the ground by a taxi driver, hitting his head on the curb and losing consciousness. According to Christensen, Hutchence was rushed to hospital and woke up determined to leave. The injury resulted in Hutchence having permanent loss of sense of smell and taste. Clips show Yates and Michael Hutchence in a 1985 interview on Channel 4 's rock magazine programme The Tube and many years later on The Big Breakfast interview in October 1994. The film was to feature an actor as Hutchence, however the idea of casting someone proved very difficult and with the announcement of the miniseries INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, it made the director switch to an archival documentary. [8] The documentary film gathered early development funding and support by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Screen Australia and Film Victoria. [9] A pitch trailer was produced and shown at the 2016 Australian International Documentary Conference in Melbourne where BBC Music took interest. [9] In July 2016, it was announced that a documentary film about the singer-songwriter Michael Hutchence had the official support of INXS band members and manager Chris Murphy, with Richard Lowenstein signed on to direct. Meet me in st louis cast. Okay so I wrote this review for my film class in school but then realized I misread the assignment and had to start over. It's pretty detailed so I figured I'd post it here. So here it is! Spoilers)
Right around the beginnings of the 1900's, the Louisiana State Purchase Exposition (or the St. Louis World's Fair) was scheduled to take place in the Smith's hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. The entire town is excited about having such an important event in their own backyard.
The movie starts out with the Smith's neighborhood residents singing "Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis." Esther Smith (Judy Garland) is captivated by her new neighbor, John Truett (Tom Drake.
At about 20 minutes into the movie, the Smith family hosts a going-away party for the college-aged son, Lon (Henry H. Daniels Jr. Esther's older sister, Rose (Lucille Bremer) invites John and has Esther finally formally meet him. Esther and John are now both obviously interested in each other.
Later that week, Esther boards a trolley to see the fairgrounds in progress. She sings "The Trolley Song." At the end of the song, Esther sings, He stayed on with me and it was grand just to stand with his hand holding mine, to the end of the line! As she sings the last part, she notices John has sat next to her and she becomes embarrassed.
Now we're halfway through the movie and it's halloween night. Esther and Rose's little sisters, Agnes (Joan Carroll) and Tootie (Margaret O'Brien) dress up and go trick-or-treating with other kids form the neighborhood. Tootie had an incident where she though John Truett beat her up, but it turns out he was just trying to protect her from the police officers. The officers were out looking for the kids who pulled an awful halloween prank. they put stuffed-up clothes on the trolley track so it would look like a body.
Also on halloween night, Mr. Smith (Leon Ames) announces that he's been transferred to New York. The family is devastated that they'll have to move from their beloved city to one where they know no one. Mrs. Smith (Mary Astor) argues: Agnes just ready to be promoted and Esther going to be a Rose is to be graduated next year." Esther adds: And what about me, and my life? Mr. Smith is firm in his decision: You'll have to take that with you. It's settled. We're moving to New York." A final word from Mrs. Smith: I must say, you're being very calm about the way you pack us off lock, stock, and barrel. I've got the future to think about. Mr. Smith doesn't budge on what he's decided. The family goes to bed, disappointed and upset.
The next big event to happen in the movie is the local Christmas Eve dance. Rose doesn't have a date, so the Smith's maid (Marjorie Main) suggests that she goes with her brother, Lon. Rose doesn't want to be the laughing stock of the dance, but Esther thinks it's a fine idea. After all, she's going with John.
But she soon finds out that John can't go because he forgot to pick up his tux before the shop closed. Esther's Christmas spirit is crushed, until her grandpa (Harry Davenport) offers to go to the dance with her instead.
At the dance, while Esther is dancing with her grandpa, John shows up and finishes the dance with Esther. At the end of the dance, late at night, John proposes to Esther. Esther accepts with an elated heart.
But when she gets home, she finds Tootie brokenhearted that they leave for New York in just hours. Esther sings the now-famous "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" while Tootie cries. Then, suddenly, Tootie runs outside and starts destroying the snowmen the Smith family built because they can't move to New York with them.
All the while, Mr. Smith watches this from a window in the house. Esther leads the calmed-down Tootie up the grand staircase and Mr. Smith ponders all that has happened recently. He realizes what he needs to do and calls a family meeting right then and there. He announces that the family is not moving to New York! I've got a few words to say. We're not moving to New York. And I don't want to hear a word about it. We're going to stay right here. We're going to stay here till we York hasn't got a copyright on opportunity! Why, St. Louis is headed for a boom that'll make your head swim. This is a great town. The trouble with you people is you don't appreciate it because it's right here under your noses. The grass is always greener in somebody else's yard." The family laughs together and exchanges thankful hugs. "Oh, papa, you've given us the nicest Christmas present anybody could ask for, Esther says.
The next scene, the Smith family is headed off to the fair in the springtime. Esther and John are standing on a balcony together before joining the rest of the Smith family. When the lights of the fair turn on, Rose says, We don't have to come here in a train or stay in a hotel. It's right in our own hometown." Esther says to John, I can't believe it. Right here where we live! Right here in St. Louis...

I got in late last night from my trip to St. Louis and I have to say, I just NOW felt motivated enough to tackle the 9238658 pictures I took! And of course, there’s no better way than a MIMM post to recap this weekend because it definitely was a MARVELOUS trip…enough touristy things to really get the feel for the city, along with some down time for relaxing and catching up with a good friend! We took it easy when I first got in on Friday night with pizza and a movie followed by some frozen custard…but you’ll just have to wait until tomorrow for those deets! 😉 Saturday morning started with an early morning trip to the historic Soulard Farmer’s Market! Honestly, when we walked up to it, I didn’t have high expectations. And then we walked inside… They had EVERYTHING! Fruits and veggies I’ve never even heard of (black radish? ), mouth-watering baked goods, gelato (the on the right was sweet potato…yes we got a sample…yes it was DELICIOUS! ), the cutest little baby donuts, and that would be Eric drooling over the display of like 10 different kinds of bacon! But it didn’t stop there. Along with all the fresh produce, meat, and pastries, there was a whole other side… Selling handmade jewelry, tea, homemade pasta and bread, and even a PET SHOP! There were also little restaurants at the center of the market, but it was much to crowded to try to get any pictures. It was hard not to buy half the things I saw, but I ended up walking out with a new pair of sunglasses and these little beauties… Sweet Carmine peppers and a Kuri squash (so I can finally see what Sarah makes such a fuss about! ) Later that day, after the sun decided to come out to play, Eric took me to Forest Park. A beautiful setting to go with even more beautiful weather! We drove up to the Art Museum and the view from the top was even better! Once inside the museum, I got trigger happy with Big Bertha…the ADHD child within me was in pure ecstasy! So many styles of art from so many places and SO many eras! Eric’s favorite exhibit. I want that coffee table! Hey, I did say “child” 😉 We oh-ed and aw-ed at everything…and then we snuck into that wardrobe and traveled to Narnia! Also known as the zoo! 😉 Even though I JUST went to the Nashville zoo last weekend, I’m glad we went to the one in St. Louis because it totally trumped Nashville! They had so many more animals and most of the exhibits were smaller so your chances of seeing the animal up close was much better. We were actually a little nervous about that camel spitting on us…but that could’ve been because Eric wouldn’t quit singing “my lovely lady lumps” 😉 Plus, there weren’t any random peacock sightings in the concession areas in Nashville! I think he thinks he’s a chameleon! The next day, after a late breakfast, we headed out for a beer… TOUR that is! The tour guides were great and I really learned a lot during the tour…and let me tell you, it smelled absolutely AMAZING in and around the factory…mmm, hops! Oh and yeah, we got our beer too! Then we were off to see the wizard the Gateway Arch! Whew, I swear I only had half a beer! 😉 I’ve always thought the Arch to be a great work of art, but when you’re actually standing next to it, looking up at it’s massiveness, it really does take your breath away! And even though the ride to the top was a little umm, not what I expected… FIVE seats in a FOURxFOUR metal bubble… The ultimate test of claustrophobia… It was totally worth it to see the view from the top! Did you know that the Gateway Arch is the tallest monument in the United States? Well, you do now! Just remember me should you ever win big on some trivia game with that one…I’ll take a check! 😉 After that, we grabbed some grub and I hit the road for my FIVE hour journey home…ugh, WHY does it always feel like it takes longer to get home?!
